Basic Points On Designing A Tech Career Road Map

When "Designing a Tech Career Road Map", it simply means organizing yourself , a path in tech that suits you both dynamically and stationary. As a matter of fact, I am also part of those novice in this section of life. With some information I got from my virtual mentor, I am highlighting some that gives a standout meaning. Please note that most of my information is sourced from Yewande O.

SO...WHERE DO I START IN TECH?

You see this question is what so many of us, need to ask. When I do not ask myself such question, I get stuck in my thoughts. Some questions that will help tackle this aspect why questioning myself would be:

1. What do people say I am good at?
2. What motivates me?
3. What aspects of my work or course do I enjoy the most?
4. What do i find myself doing in my spare time?

Having the answers to this questions, leads me to the next stage. Without this I can be disoriented, leading to poor evaluation of myself.

HOW DO I UNDERSTAND MY STRENGTH AND SKILLS?

Skills could be Hard Skills or Soft skills. Example of Hard Skills could be; Use of document and formal printing, access to Desktop publishing e.t.c. Also example of Soft skills are; Leadership Skills, Presentation Skills, Communication Skills, including Adaptation Skills. With these examples, I know that skills are dynamic and changes occur, with that I learn more. I also learnt that sometimes, we do not really need to develop on a particular skill but can develop various skills .

MAKING CHOICES WITHIN TECH. HOW DO I DO THAT?

Making choices within tech illustrates a dynamic level of Tech as a novice. So, there are few guides that can help me to make those choices, such as; explore my interest, take an intro course, volunteer for one project, Join a community, Get a mentor, Keep Learning and stacking my knowledge, eventually get a Job.

KNOW "THE REASON FOR BEING"(A QUOTE OF INTEREST)

Knowing the reason for being was an interesting quote from the Japanese word "IKIGAI", source from my Virtual Mentor Yewande Odumosu(Startup Advisor); this is what gave me an actual head start in Tech. Trying to understand my role in Tech is very important. The basic questions I need to ask myself are;

1. What I Love?
2. What are am I good at?
3. What I can be paid for?
4. What the world needs? With these questions being answered wisely, I can determine a role that suits my perspective. But sometimes it is good to source out more information.

HOW I MAKE MYSELF UNIQUE OR STAND OUT

So, how can I be unique when all available practices have been done? Yeah simple, by ;

• Working Hard
• Being diligent
• Having a great attitude
• Having a leadership mindset
• Being Innovative
• Marking my achievements
• Always valuable to my team
• Being punctual
• Sharing my work and learnings online (as I am doing now).
• Updating my profile frequently (any social media handle)
• Networking myself always
• Volunteering at events (which also invites improvement on my communication skills)
• Asking questions in public(which improves my knowledge)

HOW I INTEND TO APPLY THESE LESSONS

First of all, I don't intend to apply this lessons linearly because, Life is simply unpredictable. Rather, I simply carry out some of the points and add it to my life. I will take them gradually, step by step, no rush(because I'm competing myself, no one else). And also reach a point where tech Equals my daily life. With the lessons learnt, I will continue pouring out my thoughts on Tech.

WORD OF ADVICE: For Personal Development, one should always try to do a course online or offline to equip more knowledge and various understanding. It's tiresome but it's worth it. At least, with this you can start your own firm or Business, BY BEING AN INVENTOR, INNOVATOR AND INVESTOR IN TECH.
