Tech Areas Of Improvement For Internet Safety Practices

In our daily life, we tend to use our Tech Gadgets with high concentration. We get distracted by what is the gist of the day, what Instagram brings to our desk, what is trending in twitter, what task is assigned to you on slack. But yet users don't know what is actually going on within the tech space.

Internet security is what I'm talking about. People click this, click that, but don't actually know the source of that link. In expectation, one need to radically ask, What is the source of that link?, Is it safe for me to click this link?, Is that link secure?, If I click this link what can be the consequences?; this very questions are what users are meant to ask to keep their System/Internet activities safe. Furthermore, I will briefly give the tips on how to keep your computer/systems/Internet activities safe:

FIRSTLY, WHAT ARE INTERNET SAFE PRACTICES?

It's simply a way of safe guarding your internet activities, understanding basic internet guardline, keep daily routine check on gadgets, protecting your personal space in tech and having a good user experience of protection and prevention in their e-space(Internet space). It can also be the ability of Adhering to practical standard, comprehending contemporary technology, and safeguarding your digital gadget(Ihouma, ADA IT SUPPORT.2022).

SAFE CHOICES TO MAKE IN E- SPACE

To go about this you must be able to carry out the following;

• Verifying Someone's(in this a stranger) identity
• Ensuring if a link is safe to click or use
• Knowing when to identify Online scam
• Privacy Protection
• Cyberbullying Identification
• Ad Blockers Usage
• Using VPN(Virtual Personal Network) on your gadgets. (Ihouma, ADA IT Support.2022)

HOW TO PROTECT YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA HANDLES(INCLUDING EMAIL)

Now, this topic is important because all users engage on this for their workspace. It is also true that 93% if not 100% of their personal information are stored there. So as a user how do you keep your social media accounts/ handles safe, then here are the answers:

• Choose a very Strong Password
• Use unique password for each social network.
• Enable two-factor Authentication.
• Set your accounts to private and review the default privacy settings so you can control who sees what on your accounts.
• Always lock your device or log off to prevent unauthorised access to your social media accounts.
• Be careful about the personal information you reveal about yourself online. This can be used by cyber criminals for social engineering.
• Use the block function to protect yourself from spam accounts and unwanted followers/interactions.
• Do not click on links in posts, tweets or direct messages unless you are 100% certain that they are genuine and well-intentioned - they may be phishing attempts! (NI Cyber Security Centre, 2020).

QUESTION: What is Phishing? Answer: Phishing is when cyber criminals attempt to get unsuspecting users to do 'the wrong thing', such as clicking a dangerous or fraudulent link that will download malicious software or direct them to a website that requires them to enter personal details. (NI Cyber Security Centre, 2020).

HOW TO KEEP YOUR SYSTEM SAFE

Finally, if a user understands the above condition above, then you should consider your system or phone you are using. How do tend to keep your PC or IPhone or Android safe? The answer will be:

FOR PCs

• Use an Anti-Malware App
• Use a Pop-up Blocker with your browser
• Keep your PC updated always
• Use a serious Anti-Virus Software (Such as, AVAST, Windows Defender, Kaspersky E.T.C) (Max Joshua, Speaker in ADA, 2022).

As for Androids and Iphone it is best to always update the phone to improve features that protects your phone. We are in an Era where all Phone Brands have an Embedded Anti-Virus from the Manufacturer.

Always remember, prevention is better than repairs(Loss). Take note of that!!!!!
